PERSONAL CONSIDERATIONS
The Blues form is, for me, one of the most important progressions to study, since within a brief span—12 measures—it offers the possibility to explore and develop the three tonal functions: Tonic, Subdominant, and Dominant.
ABOUT THE BOOK
In my book “Major Blues Harmony”, starting from the foundational structure, which contains the three degrees I–IV–V, I develop 36 reharmonizations by applying concepts from Functional Harmony, Coltrane Changes, Hybrid Chords, among others.
It is important to highlight that each reharmonization also includes a “Written Functional Analysis.”
If you have any questions, I recommend consulting my book “Triad Superimposition 1”, as well as “Functional Harmony I and II” by Néstor Crespo. These are available through our Digital Music Publishing Serie 20&20 – www.serie20y20.com.ar
HOW TO USE THE BOOK
Since this is an “INTERACTIVE” book, it is essential to print it single-sided.
The reason for single-sided printing is that on each page you will find two dotted lines marked with a “scissors symbol ” on the right margin, along with a “vertical boundary line” indicating where to cut.
Each reharmonization is divided into “Three Blocks”:
⦁ Block 1: measures 1 to 4
⦁ Block 2: measures 5 to 8
⦁ Block 3: measures 9 to 12
Each of the 36 reharmonizations within each block can be freely combined with the others.
HOW TO COMBINE BLOCKS
With the book printed and the cuts made, you can, for example, combine “Block 1 from Blues 1” with “Block 2 from Blues 4” and finish with “Block 3 from Blues 16.”
In this way, you can achieve a large number of possible reharmonizations.
AUDIOS
The book also includes 36 audio tracks corresponding to the 36 original Blues.
Naturally, audio examples of all possible block combinations are not included.
OBJECTIVE
The goal is for some of the combinations you discover to inspire you to compose a blues. Additionally, when improvising, you may choose to use a different combination or the standard Major Blues structure.
